It has been so great to read about everyone! Many of you I already know, but to the others let me introduce myself. My name is Brooke Connell and I live in Lenexa with my husband of four years, Kipp. We met as freshman at Washburn University in Topeka. We moved to Kansas City after graduation in 2004. My undergraduate degree is in mass media with an emphasis in public relations.

After graduation I took a position with a local advertising agency and then moved to the corporate side with an engineering firm, where I still work. I am a marketing specialist in the corporate headquarters at Terracon, a nationwide engineering firm. In my position I am in charge of our external communications. I was recently assigned to our new “green”initiative and all the marketing for that sector. I was excited when I found out this class was being offered because it fits perfectly with my new assignment.

Other than work and school, I love being outdoors. In my spare time I like to play golf, bike, go to the lake with my family and go to sporting events. I’m looking forward to graduating in the spring so I will again have spare time to do more of these activities.

Brooke, Green initiatives are all the rage. I look forward to hearing how your ad agency is implementing these efforts and seeing how we can help you advance them within your firm.

Brooke-

Sounds like you’ve got a big job ahead of you. My firm has been a little slow in getting going on this. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on how you’re proceeding. It can be tough to convince your peers, co-workers, and even clients about the benefits of being green and embracing sustainability and sustainable design.

Brooke–I understand about being picked for the “greening” of a company. I found myself in the same position when I had an internship. The benefit of that, though, is that the company is interested in thinking green. Its always so much more encouraging when the higher-ups are interested rather than not. I’m sure you’ll get a lot out of this course that you can apply to your job!

Susan – It is definitely a challenge that I’m looking forward to. Just in our two days of class I have learned many things to share with my co-workers.
