Originally planted as Media & the Environment, the idea for Fresh Green Beans grew out of a Journalism class at the University of Kansas. Taught by renowned journalist and correspondent Simran Sethi in the spring 2008 semester, the class covered a wide array of topics confronted by people communicating about environmental issues.
The blog blossomed during the first semester, and now continues to grow in Lawrence, Kansas. We believe in taking global issues and providing a local perspective. We want to encourage positive environmental change in our surrounding communities and provide a launching pad for other communities around the country to get some fresh and tasty ideas to use at home.
The site is a mix of blogs authored by the original members of the class and supplemented by categorized readings. Other Lawrence community members, ranging from farmers to professors, contribute to the blog’s voice. Visitors of the site will have plenty of learning material to chew on (did we mention yet that we love green bean puns?) - so eat up.
