awesome-djsMy name is Tina Wood and this is my first blog posting experience. I originate from Wichita Kansas, but am happy to say I’ve lived in many other more exciting locations. I moved to Lawrence in January 08 from just outside of San Francisco. I worked as an intern for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. There I assisted in the direction of a field trip program that taught environmental education to K-6th graders. I had a great time working with the kids and that experience, among others, brought me back to KU to get another degree in Environmental Studies. Before moving to California I lived in Kansas City and worked as a design assistant, weaver, waitress, and substitute teacher in an attempt in support myself while trying to start a career in design. While working at the Blue Bird Bistro I met a variety of environmentally conscience people whose influence led me to change paths from art and design to environmental issues. I attended KU previous to my stint in Kansas City and received a BFA in Textile Design. Before moving to Lawrence in 1999, I lived in New York with my sister while she attended the Culinary Institute of America. While living in New York I learned to cook, navigate my way through the city and developed a love for art. This is merely a snip it of the past 10 years of my life. However, this description would not be complete without mentioning my cat and companion, Hunners. He has moved back and forth across this country with me and maintained the only constancy I knew for the past decade. I am sad to report that I recently suffered the loss of Hunners; his absence resonates. I now plan to embark on new endeavors with his love and spirit in mind.
